Equestrian Biomechanics Sessions
Equestrian Biomechanics Assessment
These mounted sessions are very much based off of the rider’s intentions, and needs. For example, in some instances the rider has a specific task, or position change they are working towards, such as more stability through the lower leg, or to minimize balancing on their hands; while other rider’s may be looking for help returning from an injury, or dealing with chronic pain while riding.
In these sessions, I start by looking at the “levers & pulleys” of both horse and rider to see what looks like it is moving with well, and what looks like it may not be moving as optimally as possible. I also take into account any possible anxiety while riding, past injuries, traumas, etc. It all plays a role in how the body is reacting and responding while you ride.
Depending on what comes up during the initial mounted assessment, and what the desired goals are, it is not uncommon to get the rider to dismount, try a handful of customized exercises to either help release what needs to be released, or activate whatever needs to be activated. Then, after re-mounting, we get to check to see how that impacted the rider’s position.
From there, suggestions may be made on small position changes, warm up exercises, or a small movement routine to practice regularly throughout the week.

"Megan is incredibly knowledgeable and fun to work with! The information I gained from the biomechanics session was so valuable to me. Megan offered a series of movements and stretches to practice out of the saddle that helps me improve my posture, balance and position in the saddle. She is very thorough and sees literally every tiny move or shift in how a person moves. It’s amazing. Highly recommend having her out to your barn!"

"It is rare to meet a professional in the equine industry who has such valuable insight about both horse and rider. As a biomechanics expert, Megan sees everything! Specifically she offered exercises for both on and off the horse which improved my body awareness and my position. Megan suggested simple changes which yielded big results. And when I didn't understand something, she was able to explain it in a different way so that I could implement her directions. She is an excellent communicator, confident in her knowledge and patient. But more than anything else, she cares deeply for her clients and she is passionate about her work. If you want to be the best you can be for your horse, you must have Megan out to your barn as soon as possible! You will not regret your choice and you will wonder why you didn't do it earlier. "

"Megan is incredible and has a keen eye for details that others might miss. She is helpful, encouraging, nonjudgmental, and incredibly patient! With a few simple exercises from our rider biomechanics session, I am already feeling more stable and confident in the saddle. For an added bonus, join Megan’s pilates for equestrians classes! Highly recommend !"

Depending on the needs/desires of the rider, some sessions may take a “lesson vibe”, but I don’t typically teach regular lessons, and I do not have horses available to teach lessons on.
